AT IGLOO we are committed to our Footprint® policy of sustainable investment and are particularly keen to raise awareness of green issues.
So, in 2011 we are founding the very first UK Green Film Festival from 20–22 May. The festival, which is in collaboration with other established festivals such as the San Francisco Green Film Festival, will run concurrently in Leeds, London, Glasgow, Cardiff and Manchester, and will include a special selection of films picked by Jake Harvey (from the Phoenix Square cinema in Blueprint’s Leicester development) and shown at the Hyde Park Picture House with a supporting series of talks. Details are still being confirmed but keep an eye on http://ukgreenfilmfestival.org / @ukgreenfilms for further info.
ON 16 APRIL the Cross Keys are holding their Easter Market with food and crafts from local and independent Yorkshire traders and an Easter egg hunt for the kids too. www.the-crosskeys.com
Keep an eye on…
WE ARE ALSO PLANNING lots of lovely events in the area which will make use of some of the, currently, empty spaces – unit 7 at Marshall’s Court and the vacant ex-newsagent’s shop – with some fantastic Leeds based creatives including The Blind Club (@theblindclub / http://vimeo.com/theblindclub) and Black Dogs.
You may know Andy Abbott as one of the artists in the Black Dogs Collective who were using space in the Green Sand Foundry before Bloom Media moved in. Andy will be using Unit 7 which he has renamed The Bungalow for his exhibition ‘A Serious Waste of Time’ from 15–27 March. In this, his first solo exhibition, Andy presents a selection of videos, photographs, prints and audio pieces born of four ongoing and intertwined projects. The starting point for each project was a hobby, a spare-time activity or simply slacking off.
As ever, keep your eyes peeled and we’ll add any more details to our website but you can check out what else the Black Dogs guys are up to here http://www.black-dogs.org or follow them on twitter @blackdogsleeds.
IN TOWER WORKS NEWS, the first phase of development started last September and is due to be finished by April. This will stabilise the building around the entrance and provide a clean development platform for future development activity on the site. Yorkshire Forward are waiting for approval to enter into a contract with the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to allow the entrance range building to be fitted out and occupied as managed workspace which will fabulously complement what we have already in Holbeck Urban Village. Watch this space for further updates.
ALSO COMING UP is a new event, The Media Marketplace, to be held at Elland Road on 18 March. This exhibition, conference and networking event is designed to facilitate and build new business partnerships and alliances across Yorkshire’s creative, digital and communications industries – perfect for many of you.
